We’re incredibly excited to bring you TC&F’s season opener, which is a tribute to the Yellow Barn Music School and Festival, where we spent a big chunk of our summer. The concert will be in grand Trio Cleonice and Friends style, which – not entirely coincidentally! – intersects nicely with Yellow Barn’s own style: there will be tons of music, all of which we adore, with some of our very favorite friends of all, whom we know from Yellow Barn and who happen to live in Boston! You will love hearing them as much as we love playing with them: violinist Zenas Hsu, violist Jinsun Hong, and double bassist (our first double bassist!!) Elizabeth Burns. Emely will begin the season alone, with a selection from My Windows, a gorgeously contemplative solo piano work by YB’s 2014 Composer-in-Residence Lei Liang (who happens to be an NEC alum!); Gwen will join Emely for a rather literal Vermont reference in Dvorak’s hushed and gorgeous Silent Woods (we ask you to consider what a TC&F concert would be without some Dvorak!); Trio Cleonice will present one of its most recent new summertime treats, the Chacona by Mario Davidovsky; and the first half closes with Zenas and Emely in the Canonic Fugue from Bach’s incredible, visionary Musical Offering, which we all (everyone on the concert!) got to perform together this summer at Yellow Barn; in the second half, the program turns rather Viennese, and opens with the haunting and gestural Vier Stücke for lower string trio, which Jinsun, Gwen, and Lizzie will present in Brookline after having performed it in July in Putney; and finally, the program closes in the most romantic, celebratory way possible: with a late Mozart quartet, K. 589, which is one of the composer’s great “Prussian” quartets, and which will feature Ari, Zenas, Jinsun, and Gwen in this most operatic, heartbreakingly beautiful, raucous, and delightful of pieces. We can’t wait to share the season opener with you!

The Parlor at the United Parish Brookline, 210 Harvard Street, Brookline, MA

Suggested donation $15 (or $5 for students)

We’re super-excited to play November’s TC&F concert with our old pal Alex Fortes, whom we have known for about eight years! He’s a marvelous violinist who plays with our really cool unusual-Boston-music-scene colleagues in A Far Cry (http://www.afarcry.org)! Repertoire is still TBA for the November TC&F concert, but Trio Cleonice is going to play the Smetana Trio before leaving for our European tour about a week later. If you don’t know the Smetana Trio yet, we are beyond excited to share it with you – it is romantic and overwhelming and exalted in a way that absolutely no other piece is. If you DO know the Smetana Trio, we ALSO can’t wait to share it with you! This piece is on our list of most-beloved-ever trios (we know, it’s a long list, but Smetana is up there!). We’ll keep you posted as this possibly-Slavic-centric program develops…!

Tuesday, December 9th, 7pm – Trio Cleonice and Friends: “Celebrating Wild Tonalities!

The Parlor at the United Parish Brookline, 210 Harvard Street, Brookline, MA

Suggested donation $15 ($5 students)

We are so thrilled to present December’s TC&F concert, which features our amazing violist friend DJ Cheek alongside one of the most important people in Trio Cleonice’s musical life: violinist Laurie Smukler, whom we all studied with at Kneisel Hall and in New York. She is one of the great violinist and human beings in the whole world, and getting her to come and play with us in Brookline is a huge gift! We’ll open the program with a Haydn Quartet TBA; Emely and Laurie will perform Bartok Rhapsody; on the second half, Trio Cleonice wil present (at long last!) the Richard Wernick 2nd Trio, which he wrote for us; and the program closes with Bartok’s wild and searing 1st String Quartet. We can’t wait!
